Best seasons in Goa

To be honest, Goa is worth the visit no matter what time of year it is. However, one should always plan according to season....

Known more familiarly as the high-season, winter in Goa comprises of the months of November through to February, and sees the highest amount of incoming traffic to the state.

Ideally, this is the best time to visit Goa if you are looking to see it in full swing. The beaches are packed, the parties are plenty and the variety of events being held are endless. Find out what to expect in terms of weather, festivals, events and more from each of the months below.

Summers in Goa - they're hot, humid, sticky and sweaty. It's the time of year when the crowds begin to dwindle and temperatures begin to rise. By April many of the beach shacks and tourist town shops have already closed for the season and the school children are giddy with excited as their final exams come to an end.

That being said, it can still be a great time to visit, so long as you don't mind a little heat and a glistening forehead. Many venues are hosting their season ender parties, guesthouses and vendors are looking for last minute sales and likely to drop their prices. However by May and just before the rains hit, it's almost essential to fork up the cash and take the A/C upgrade.

The first thing that comes to mind when one hears the word ‘Goa’ is ‘sunny beach’. So who in their right mind bothers going to Goa during the monsoons? Well, the truth is, not even the tropical monsoons can put a damper on the great land of Goa. If ever there's a time to see Goa in it’s untouched state, it’s during the monsoons.

Beginning in the month of June, some 10 days after the South Indian state of Kerala and surrounding regions, the Goan monsoons generally last up to four months and bring with them plenty of rainfall but little to no crowds. Therefore while the monsoon in Goa can get pretty harsh, the fields flooded, trees uprooted and sometimes no break in the rains fat all, it's a rather magical time to come. While June and July see the most of the rains, it mellows out a bit in August. The rains pick back up again in September and slowly come to a close in October.
